2010 saw Tyne and Wear Metro begin its 30 years celebrations! Nexus were approached by BBC who had commissioned a special short film to commemorate this huge occasion. Metro the Musical would be a tribute to our public transport system and a celebration of the people who use it.
Amateur and professional musicians and singers throughout the region were able to audition. Almost 200 performers of all ages took part in rehearsals and performances.
The project was created, composed and directed by Benjamin Till (a specialist in musical documentaries).
The film was then officially premiered live on BBC Look North on Thursday 24 March at the Sage, Gateshead. DVD’s were also available to buy which went to benefit the BBC Children in Need charity.
