Modernisation work:

There are no trains running between Benton and Monkseaton in either direction until Tuesday 30 August. This is to allow for modernisation work.

A replacement bus service, the number 900, is calling at or near to all stations between Four Lane Ends and Monkseaton. Bus timetables and stopping locations are available at nexus.org.uk/metro

3 January 2016 - Central Station 8.00pm closures Sunday - Thursday

Central Station will close each evening at 8.00pm Sunday to Thursday (reopening the following morning as normal) until later this year. The station will not close early on Sunday 28 August, bank holiday Monday 29 August or on Sunday 11 September 2016.  During the closures trains will not stop at Central Station. Customers who would normally travel from or to Central Station after 8.00pm Sunday to Thursday are advised to use Monument. If you're unable to get to or from Monument please speak to a member of staff.   Please note several full day closures of Central Station are also required, details shown below. We're sorry for any inconvenience.

20 June 2016 - Central Station escalator replacement

A new escalator will be installed at Central Station leading between the concourse and the main Rail station.  Work will begin on 20 June and take around ten weeks to complete.  During the work please use the station lift or stairs. We're sorry for any inconvenience

5 August 2016 - Pallion step free access between platforms

Road works near to Pallion station has affected the usual step free access between platforms. An alternative pedestrian access route between the platforms has been signposted, please take care when following the route.

27 August 2016 - No trains Benton - Monkseaton 27, 28 and 29 August

No trains will run in either direction between Benton and Monkseaton for three days, starting Saturday 27 August 2016. This is to allow for modernisation work. During the closure replacement bus service number 900 will run between Four Lane Ends and Monkseaton. Metro tickets and passes will be accepted on the bus and the driver will sell tickets. Your journey will take longer so please allow extra travel time. Trains will arrive and leave Benton from platform one; at Monkseaton trains will use platform two. On bank holiday Monday, 29 August trains running will operate to a Saturday timetable. Metro services will run as usual from start of service on Tuesday 30 August.

2 September 2016 - Central Station full day closures from 8pm Friday 2 September

Central Station will be closed from 8.00pm Friday 2 September until start of service on Monday 5 September, to allow for major station refurbishment work. During the closure trains will not stop at Central Station. Customers who would normally travel from or to Central Station are advised to use Monument. If you're unable to get to or from Monument please speak to a member of staff. We're sorry for any inconvenience.

4 September 2016 - No trains between Hebburn and South Shields until 6.35pm

On Sunday 4 September no trains will run in either direction between Hebburn and South Shields, until about 6.35pm (depending on location); to allow for maintenance work.  During the work replacement bus service number 900 will run between Hebburn and South Shields. Metro tickets and passes will be accepted on the bus and the driver will sell tickets. Your journey will take longer so please allow extra travel time. Trains will arrive and leave Hebburn from platform one. 16 September 2016 - Central Station full day closures from 8pm Friday 16 September

Central Station will be closed from 8.00pm Friday 16 September until start of service on Monday 19 September, to allow for major station refurbishment work. During the closure trains will not stop at Central Station. Customers who would normally travel from or to Central Station are advised to use Monument. 18 September 2016 - No trains between South Gosforth and Tynemouth until 6.10pm

On Sunday 18 September no trains will run in either direction between South Gosforth and Tynemouth, until about 6.10pm (depending on location); to allow for maintenance work.
