Bus passengers are being advised there will be some service disruption at Haymarket Bus Station in Newcastle during the £1m roof replacement, starting on Monday, 6 September.
The work, by Newcastle City Council involves replacing the roof and an internal makeover, will mean that some bus services will depart from different stands and some will be switched to the nearby St Mary’s Place, opposite the Civic Centre.
Nexus, which manages Haymarket Bus Station, will have additional staff in place to help passengers. All the shops in the bus station will remain open during the works.
The work will be ongoing until 12 November after which time it will be suspended for the Christmas shopping period. It will then resume on 21 January for a further three to four months.
The bus stand closures are as follows:
· Stands L,M,N and P closed from 6 Sept – 21 Sept
· Stands Q, R, S &T from 22 Sept – 10 Oct
· Stands U,V,W & X from 11 Oct - 25 Oct
· Stand Y from 26 Oct – 12 Nov
Coast Road services (75, 76, 306, 308, 309, X8, X9) will depart from their respective stops in St Mary’s Place. Passengers are advised to board and alight bus the services at this location.
Quaylink will call at St Mary's Place and at a temporary bus stop near the entrance of Eldon Square Bus Station on Percy Street for the duration of the work, and will not use Haymarket.
