A new independent voice for public transport is being launched later this month.
The Tyne and Wear Public Transport User Group will hold a first meeting on Thursday, 21 October, at Gateshead Civic Centre at 7pm.
The group is entirely independent of Nexus, but Nexus has offered to help the organisers publicise the event.
Vicki Gilbert, chair of a working group behind the event, said: “We warmly invite you or your organisation to attend the launch of a new and exciting group for all those who want to see the expansion in use, as well as an improvement of public transport in Tyne and Wear.
“This new group aims to influence all rail and bus companies, Nexus and the politicians on the Integrated Transport Authority to improve the quality of service delivery the travelling public deserves in Tyne and Wear.”
The meeting will hear a presentation on Tyne and Wear’s 10-year transport plan, agree a mission statement and elect officers and a steering group.
It will take place at 7pm in the Council Chamber at Gateshead Civic Centre on Thursday, 21 October 2010. The Civic centre is a short walk from
Gateshead Metro station and bus interchange. Light refreshments will be provided.
