Nighttime working.

Nexus, which owns, manages and is modernising the Metro system, has improved the way it communicates information about night time engineering work to its neighbours.

Information about maintenance works taking place during the early hours of the morning is now available in three different ways – via email, the Nexus website or by calling Nexus Customer Services.

This means neighbours who want to know about works which may disturb them can now get information much faster and more reliably than the previous system, where letters would be delivered door-to-door.

Here’s how to find out about Metro works in your area:

  • Website: Details of night time works for the week ahead can be accessed on the Nexus website nexus.org.uk/nightworks.
  • Email: You can sign up for a weekly email bulletin at nexus.org.uk/nightworks-sign-up.
  • Telephone: You can obtain the information by calling the Nexus Customer Service number on 0191 20 20 747 between 7am and 9pm.

Ken Mackay, Director of Rail and Infrastructure for Nexus, said: “A lot of the work we do happens at night to avoid disrupting the train service, and we want people to be able to get information about work near their homes should they wish to. The new system for sending this information out is much more efficient than it was before, and it is very easy to sign up for an email, visit our website or contact our customer service line.

“As we press ahead with our £385m Metro: all change programme we will be striving hard to keep the public informed about what works are taking place and when.”
