Pudsey Bear took a trip on the Shields Ferry to raise money for this year’s Children in Need appeal.
And the passengers were treated to some mouth-watering refreshments courtesy of ASDA store in South Shields. The event, held on Friday, 29 October, raised over £400.
The ferry crew also joined in the fun with Bob Paterson and Stephen Beck coming in on their own time to help out. It was Stephen’s job to wear the Pudsey costume while Bob was on hand helped out in the kitchen.
All the refreshments were provided by ASDA and two of their staff, Mavis Maughan and Tracey Tough, served the teas, coffees and bacon rolls.
The event, which lasted all day onboard Spirit of the Tyne, follows hot on the heels of a similarly successful event on board the ferry in aid of Help for Heroes which was organised by Bob Paterson and supported by ASDA.
Shields Ferry Manager, Carol Timlin, said: “We had an excellent day. The passengers seemed to really enjoy it, especially the kids, who were off for the half term holidays.
“Thanks go to ASDA for providing the food and to the crew for helping out and really joining in the fun, especially Stephen Beck, who did a great job as Pudsey Bear.”
