The Shields Ferry is running a special river cruise on Tuesday, November 23, for people to watch HMS Ark Royal as she leaves the River Tyne for the final time.
The specially-arranged trip will depart from the South Shields Ferry landing at 2.45pm and will give passengers the opportunity to see the Ark Royal as she sails from the mouth of the Tyne.
Tickets for the Ark Royal ferry cruise are available on a first come first served basis from on board Spirit of the Tyne prior to the 2.45pm departure.
The tickets cost £6 for adults, £4 for children aged 14 and under and concessions. Family tickets (2 adults and up to 3 children) £18. Children under 12 months free.
The cruise is being held on board the Spirit of the Tyne ferry and some of the proceeds will be donated to Help for Heroes, the charity which provides support for injured service personnel.
HMS Ark Royal is scheduled to leave her berth at Northumbria Quay in North Shields at 3pm on Tuesday.
Shields Ferry Manager, Carol Timlin, said: “This is the last time people will get the chance to see HMS Ark Royal on the Tyne, so we felt it was only right to hold a special ferry cruise so that people can watch her leave.
“The cruise on the ferry will give passengers the chance to see Ark Royal from the unique perspective of the river as she sails away from the mouth of the Tyne.
“The tickets for this cruise will be available from on board Spirit of the Tyne on Tuesday afternoon, prior to departure.”
HMS Ark Royal, which was launched in 1981 at the Swan Hunter shipyard in Wallsend, will be decommissioned by the end of 2010.
