Nexus has made two extra dates available for its fish and chip trips on the Shields Ferry, after they proved a huge hit with passengers over the summer.
Demand for tickets has proved high and in response an extra two trips have been added to the calendar – Friday September 2 and Friday September 16. They will depart from the South Shields ferry landing at 2pm and last for two hours.
Nexus, which operates the Shields Ferry, has been running the fish and chip trips for the first time this year as part of its busy programme of cruises on the River Tyne.
The fish and chips are delivered when the ferry docks at the North Shields. It then makes its way up the Tyne and passengers get to enjoy them with a light hearted recorded commentary from the well known local historian John Grundy.
The fish and chips are supplied by the Oceans fish and chip shop, based on the popular North Shields Fish Quay.
Tickets cost £12 for adults, £9 for children aged under 14, £11 concessions (aged 60 or over), £38 family ticket (two adults and two children and it is free for babies (under 12 months).
Shields Ferry Manager, Carol Timlin, said: “The fish and chip cruises have surpassed all our expectations and we’re delighted to be announcing two extra dates in September.
“A cruise on the ferry is a great way to spend an afternoon and it’s clear that the fish and chips are an added extra that people just can’t resist.
“This is the first year we’ve run these trips and they have been a resounding success with our passengers.”
