Nexus, which owns, manages and is modernising Metro, will not be carrying out any planned modernisation work this weekend while the Mouth of the Tyne Festival is taking place.
With thousands of people expected at the festival in North Shields and South Shields Nexus has kept the weekend free of planned line closures. Metro services will be running to all destinations without any disruption.
Meanwhile, the Shields Ferry service will be running normally for festival goers to get between the different venues on either side of the river.
Director General of Nexus, Bernard Garner, said: “Big crowds are expected for the Mouth of Tyne Festival and we have made sure there are no engineering works happening and that Metro will run to all destinations.”
This year’s Mouth of the Tyne Festival will see a weekend of world class street entertainment, live music and special performances on both sides on the river. Highlights this year include live performances from Alexandra Burke, Beverley Knight and Scouting for Girls.
