Nexus has embarked on its summer programme of nostalgic Tyne river cruises on the Shields Ferry, with tickets still on sale for a wide range of trips over the next four months.
Nexus, which owns and operates the Shields Ferry, has a busy schedule of river cruises from now to October.
Tickets remain on sale for this year's all new Fish and Chip trips on the ferry. Two extra dates have been added for Fridays 2 and 16 September with departures from South Shields ferry landing at 2pm.
Passengers can also opt for three hour Afternoon River Trips or the shorter Tyne Tours, which last for just an hour.
The ferry trips give passengers the chance to view the Tyne’s changing landscape from the top deck of the ferry and listen to a light hearted commentary from the well known local historian John Grundy.
The sights include the Customs House, Royal Quays, the Tyne’s shipyards, the riverside developments of North and South Tyneside, the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, The Sage Gateshead and the Gateshead Millennium Bridge.
The three hour Afternoon River Trips take place on July 3, 24, 31, August 21, 28 and September 4 and 25. They feature on board a live historical commentary.
The one-hour Tyne Tours take place July 1, 15, 29, August 12, 26, September 9 and 23 and October 7. They and take in Tynemouth Castle and Priory before heading up river as far as Jarrow Slakes before returning to South Shields.
The Fish and Chip Trips are on June 26, August 14 and September 11. They depart from the South Shields at 1pm and last for two hours. The fish and chips are delivered on board from North Shields Fish Quay.
