Extra Metro services will be in operation during the busy run up to Christmas.
Passengers will benefit from extra services running throughout the festive season, with a train every five minutes in Newcastle City Centre.
Metro is also giving passengers a 10 percent discount on its four week season tickets.
Tobyn Hughes, Director of Customer Services at Nexus, which owns and manages Metro, said: “We fund extra trains at Christmas to make life easier for all our passengers and support city centre businesses at the busiest time of year. There is also a break in modernisation work which means no further line closures anywhere on Metro until the middle of January.”
Sharon Kelly, Customer Service Director at Tyne and Wear Metro, said: “This festive season Tyne and Wear Metro knows how busy people are and how expensive Christmas can be and we’re hoping to take some of the strain off by offering a more frequent service, as well as a ten per cent discount on our four week season tickets.
“Metro provides a quick and convenient way of getting to the shops for those Christmas essentials and gifts for friends and family, as well as a speedy route to all your festive celebrations, so you don’t have to worry about parking. Our aim is to make Christmas as stress-free as possible.”
Metro is working with partners across the region, including Seven Stories, Pots and Pancakes, Life Science Centre, The Dunes and Blue Reef Aquarium, to offer passengers a variety of seasonal discounts. Visit the Metro Facebook page and click on the Offers tab.
