The Chancellor has used his Budget speech to confirm the coalition Government’s commitment to invest up to £350 million in modernising the Tyne and Wear Metro.
A Tyne and Wear Metrocar has travelled through the North East by lorry – marking the start of a £20m refurbishment for the entire fleet.
Work to completely refurbish platform areas at Sunderland railway station entered its final phase on Monday 21 June.
