PRINCIPAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- You will possess a Personal Training Programme and commit yourself to contributing to its success.
- You will maintain a record of the training received, which is to be periodically authenticated by your Mentor.
- The Graduate Steering Group will organise your training programme with input from relevant senior personnel. You should ensure you understand their role with respect to your Line Manager during training secondments and your Mentor.
- You will meet with your Mentor at mutually agreed interval to discuss your progress.
- You will understand the different roles and responsibilities of the Senior Managers, Line Manager and your Mentor, and that you act accordingly.
MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES:
THE TRAINING PROGRAMME:
- Induction and acquisition of basic skills.
- Building general skills and experience.
- Acquiring specific skills and experience to fit you for the job you will be doing by the end of your training.
TYPES OF TRAINING:
- "Off-the job" - generally by short duration training courses away from your normal work place and often involving other company employees.
- "On-the-job" - where you will learn skills or acquire experience by contributing to the work tasks of the group of people with whom you are employed.
- There should be objectives for all stages of training. You should ensure that objectives exist and that you understand them.
THE TRAINING RECORD:
You are to maintain a log of all training through a Professional Development Record, to include:
- Training received and when it occurred.
- The training objectives and whether they were achieved.
- Comments about the environment in which the training took place.
- Observation and comment about lessons learnt and subsequent actions.
THE CHALLENGE OF THE PROGRAMME:
- Developing the desire to succeed, despite an incomplete knowledge of what is expected in respect of personal achievements and standards.
- Gaining acceptance in a working group of varying ages, experience.
- Learning the "jargon" and "culture" of the particular working group.
- Working as a member of a team where the work rate of the individual can be influenced by other members of the group. There can be confusion when duties they assume to be theirs are undertaken by others whose functional roles are not always clearly perceived.
- Learning to apply academic knowledge in a "best compromise" situation, unlike the more ideal or finite solutions propounded by academic studies.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
- To be set out and agreed before each secondment
PERSON SPECIFICATION:
- Relevant Degree.
- Graduate Member of the relevant Institute or can provide evidence that membership can be obtained within an agreed period following appointment.
- Good written oral and communications skills.
- IT literate in general software.
- History of work experience, either before or during university
GRADUATE SALARY – 2012 Intake
Commencement: £22,000
After 6 month: £22,963
Start of 2nd Year: £23,925
After 18 month: £24,888
