Afternoon River Trips.

enjoy an afternoon river trip on the ferry

We run 3 hour trips on the Shields Ferry on selected summer Sundays.
The cruises sail from South Shields ferry landing along the Tyne to Newcastle / Gateshead and return to South Shields.
Choose a fascinating live commentary from either

  • Johnny Johnson who was the Port of Tyne Authority photographer, or
  • John Grundy local historian and presenter of Tyne Tees TV’s ‘Grundy’s Northern Pride’

All cruises are on Sundays, and leave South Shields ferry landing at 1.00pm. They sail along the Tyne to NewcastleGateshead, arriving back at South Shields at around 4.00pm. You’ll see the Customs House, Royal Quays, the Tyne’s shipyards, and riverside developments of North and South Tyneside before you arrive at the transformed Newcastle Quayside and Gateshead Quays. Here you’ll view BALTIC, the Sage Gateshead and Millennium Bridge from the unique perspective of the river itself.
