Nexus and Network Rail are spending £1.6 million on a new footbridge and ramps to the Metro station. The line between Gateshead and South Shields will be closed on Sunday March 9 and Sunday March 16 while the new bridge is completed. |

Metro ticket machines and station gates. |

Nexus is to install 249 new ticket machines, accepting notes and credit/debit cards as well as coins at all stations, from early 2009. At the same time ticket control barriers will be installed at 13 main stations to crack down on fraud. |
