Bank Holiday-makers can rely on Metro

Story added: Wednesday 25 August 2004

METRO services will be on-hand as usual this Bank Holiday Monday, operator Nexus has confirmed.

The train operator has decided to suspend engineering works for the new Northumberland Park Metro station at Backworth in North Tyneside, to ensure Bank Holiday revellers can get around in Tyne and Wear.

The decision means that Nexus will operate its usual Bank Holiday Metro service, based on Sunday service timetables.

Timetable are posted at all 58 Metro stations throughout Tyne and Wear and passengers can also get detailed information from the North East Traveline on 0870 608 2608.

Metro Director Ken Mackay said: “There’s still a great deal of work to be done in preparation for the new Northumberland Park Metro station but we’ve taken a decision to put it off until the following Sunday.

“After all, it’s the last Summer Bank Holiday of the year and we wanted to make sure everyone - including our staff - can get out and make the most of it.”
