ADDED value for Metro customers kicks off on Monday with the launch of some new fares for off peak travel across Tyne and Wear. The campaign to promote the new Metro off-peak returns is already underway and the new fares mean Metro customers can make a return journey for £2.20 if they need to travel to, from or through a city centre, or £1.50 if they don’t. The low-cost return tickets are designed to bring extra savings to leisure travellers who use the Metro during the day or at weekends for shopping or day trips and nights out. The campaign also ties in with Tyne and Wear Metro’s Great Days Out booklet containing more than attractions in Tyne and Wear accessible by Metro, which anyone can pick up free by popping into their nearest Nexus Travelshop. The booklet is also recreated on the Metro website. The off-peak fares campaign is one of the biggest advertising campaigns to hit the region this year, and reflects what is one of the biggest ticket changes ever seen on the Tyne and Wear Metro system. Andy Bairstow, Nexus' Commercial Director, said: “Our aim is to significantly increase off-peak travel on the Metro system, including encouraging passengers who use alternative modes of transport to try it out. Our first step has been to both simplify and reduce fares on most journeys which adds up to a considerable saving for our customers.” Posters will posted on the Metro system, on billboards, at bus stops and at on-street poster sites across the region. Advertisements will also be placed in all local press and overall 84% of the adult Tyne and Wear population will see the adverts on average 6.3 times. Finally, all homes within 800m of a Metro station will receive a booklet detailing the new tickets. The leaflet features the imagery used in the poster campaign.
