A new centralised bureau is set to speed up the issuing of passes for public transport passengers on the Nexus Concessionary Travel scheme. The bureau is to be set up at the transport operator's Newcastle headquarters and will operate using a postal application system. Users of the Nexus Concessionary Travel scheme, who include school students aged under 16 and the elderly, will no longer have to queue at a Nexus Travelshop to apply for or renew their pass. Nexus will begin operating the bureau on July 19, staffed by a team of four dedicated workers attached only to the CT scheme, who will issue permits and post them out to customers as well as answering any customer enquiries on a dedicated phone number. John Souter, Retail Manager for Nexus, said: "The idea is to improve the application and renewal procedure for Concessionary Travel scheme members by ensuring they no longer have to queue in Travelshops to apply for or renew CT passes and Under 16 cards. "Nexus' 11 Travelshops will still play an important role, allowing customers to drop off application forms, have their ID verified in advance and accept payment to further speed up the process. "A dedicated phone line - 0191 203 3434 - which will be available from July 19 when the new system launches, will provide information on the Concessionary Travel schemes. "We are also confident that by providing a dedicated resource to issue CT passes we can improve the level of service we offer to customers in this area."
