Local public transport operator Nexus has stepped in to secure under-threat bus services in Whitley Bay. Nexus acted when it learnt of plans by Arriva Northumbria to withdraw three minibus services in the seaside town. The transport body’s intervention means the services will get a temporary reprieve for six months while their longer-term future is reviewed. The under-threat services, the W1 minibus service to the Hillheads estate, and its sister service, the W2, which runs to Brierdene, and the W4 to the Uplands estate will all now continue to operate during the review. Bernard Garner, Nexus’ Development Director said: “We are reviewing the long-term future of these services but in the meantime we’ve been able to allocate money from our secured Services budget to keep them running.”
