Tyne Ferry operators Nexus say their Sunday afternoon river cruises will be a smash hit this summer. With the Tall Ships Race and the International Festival of Rivers and the Sea just around the corner, the cruises are the ideal way to get the best possible view, say the Ferry bosses. Development Director, Bernard Garner, said: "We’re delighted to have local personalities involved this year and they will add something extra to the overall experience. “Our Sunday afternoon cruises are a fantastic way for the public to see all the sights from the unique perspective of the river." There is a choice of two types of cruise: A three hour river cruise with fascinating live commentary from local personality and historian, either Janis Blower, the Catherine Cookson expert from the South Shields Gazette, on 22nd May, 24th July and 14th August, or, John Grundy, from Tyne Tees Television's 'Grundy Goes' series, on 4th September. A 3 hour river cruise and live music and dancing from the 1940s to 1970s from The Norman Brown Trio on 19th June and 25th September. The sights include Customs House, Royal Quays, the Tyne's shipyards and riverside developments of North and South Tyneside, before arriving at the transformed Newcastle Quayside and Gateshead Quays, with the Baltic, Sage Gateshead and Millennium Bridge. Tickets are £10 for adults, £8 for children aged under 15 and people aged 60 or over. Family tickets, for two adults and up to three children, are £32. Cruises start and end at South Shields. Tickets are available by phoning the Nexus hotline on (0191) 203 3315 or visiting a Nexus Travelshop.
