That’s the message from Tyne and Wear Metro operator, Nexus, as Newcastle’s annual Town Moor fun fair gets underway. Nexus say that with its fast, frequent service, keenly priced tickets and ease of use, the Metro is the best way to get there by far. Metro passengers heading for the Hoppings have the choice of three Metro stations for their journey, with Haymarket and West Jesmond all nearby. And with great ticket deals on offer, the price is nice too. The best Metro tickets for a visit to the Hoppings is a low cost off peak return, either a £2.20 city return or a £1.50 non city return. If passengers are travelling to, from or through Sunderland, Newcastle or Gateshead centres press ‘City Return’ on the ticket machine and if not travelling to, from or through either city centre press Non ‘City Return’. The Hoppings, or the Town Moor Fair, as it was formally called, has been a regular Summer sight in the North East for more than 120 years. Situated on Newcastle’s Town Moor, it’s 40 acres of fun with over 200 attractions for all the family. The fun got underway today (Friday June 17) and runs until Saturday June 25. Turn right down Forsyth Road and cross over Great North Road onto the Town Moor. 5 minute walk. Exit Haymarket station onto Percy Street and up Barras Bridge. Follow left up Claremont Road (passing the Hancock Museum on the right) and then take a right up Park Terrace. The subway takes you through to Exhibition Park, behind which is the Town Moor. 10 - 15 minute walk.
