Extra Metro trains will flying up and down the tracks to Wearside this weekend as operator Nexus gears up to carry thousands of passengers to this year’s Sunderland International Airshow. Metro passengers heading to the seafront show can board a train at any station on the system, jump off at Seaburn Metro station and find themselves just a ten minute walk away from the heart of the action on Seaburn Sea Front. And with no parking hassles or charges to worry about, Metro makes more sense than taking the car to this year’s Airshow, which promises to be a fantastic event. Sunderland International Airshow, now entering its 17th year, promises to provide yet another dramatic and fun filled weekend of activity. The largest free Airshow in Europe will once again play host to the ever-popular Red Arrows - their spectacular aerobatics displays are sure to entertain and transfix, no matter what your age. The RAF's most advanced fighter aircraft, the Eurofighter, will be making its first appearance at the show and don’t miss the Royal Navy Black Cats Helicopter Team, the Jaguar, United States Airforce KC135 refuelling tanker and performances by both the Belgian Air Component and Dutch Air Force’s F16’s. Marking the 60th Anniversary of the end of WWII, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will feature their impressive Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane. Back on the ground, there’s plenty to see and do with displays and entertainment throughout the whole airshow site along Sunderland’s coastline and an impressive arena programme featuring the Royal Marine Commando Display Team and the Royal Navy PT Demo Team. Getting there couldn’t be easier - or better value. Airshow fans taking the Metro can purchase a Return from just £1 or a DaySaver ticket at only £3.20 for unlimited travel all day.
