Metro is the best way to see the black cats in action this season, say Nexus

Story added: Sunday 14 August 2005

With Sunderland making their return to the Premiership on tomorrow against Charlton, Nexus say fans should leave the car at home and hop on the Metro.

Metro stations are just a few minutes’ walk from the Black Cats’ ground, making it the best and easiest option for what promises to be an exciting season of top class football on Wearside.
Director General of Nexus, Mike Parker, said: "It’s great for the North East that Sunderland are back in football’s top flight and it promises to be a fantastic season.

"The Tyne and Wear Metro really is the best option for getting to all of Sunderland’s home games and we are confident that the fans will make use of the system to see their team in action, this is because Metro avoids the hassle of sitting in traffic queues before and after the game and the struggle to find a somewhere to park the car."

Additional trains are being laid on for all of Sunderland’s home games this coming season.
Fans travelling to the game from the north are advised to get off the train at Stadium of Light station and fans coming from the south should alight at St Peter’s.

After the game if fans are heading north they must board trains at Stadium of Light and those going south must return to St Peter’s for the journey home. These measures are in place to deal safely with crowd control, say Nexus.
