Youngsters can get out about much easier during the summer holidays thanks to Tyne and Wear Metro operator Nexus. Under 16s can buy a card allowing them to travel on public transport for just 30p . They can also pay a 35p Transfare on weekdays until 7pm right through the summer break from school. This is because concessionary child fares will be available until 7pm Monday to Friday throughout the year – including the month of August, which was previously excluded. And there’s great news for Concessionary Travel pass holders too. The price of the Concessionary Rover ticket has been reduced from £1.80 to £1.50, meaning people can make as many journeys as you like in a day with just one ticket and it’s even better value. The ticket is accepted on all the forms of transport where concessionary travel passes are valid – the Metro, the Shields Ferry, most local bus services and Northern Rail services between Sunderland, Newcastle and the MetroCentre and Blaydon. Concessionary Rover tickets are available from Metro ticket machine. Alternatively, ask the bus driver or ferry operator (they'll need to see your CT Pass when you buy it and every time you use it). You can buy the ticket after 9am on Monday to Friday and at any time on weekends and public holidays. For further information on Under 16 Travel Cards or Concessionary Travel Passes Phone the Nexus Concessionary Travel Bureau on (0191) 203 3434. Visit www.nexus.org.uk or pick up a leaflet from a Nexus Travelshop.
