Train services are just the tonic for Gateshead (09/12/2005) Transport chiefs have announced a boost for rail services for Gateshead. Northern Rail says that its trains will now be calling at Dunston and Blaydon on weekdays to allow greater access to parts of western Gateshead. The trains will start running there from Monday, December 12th. With the indefinite closure of the High Level Bridge to cars and serious peak time congestion on the roads, these extra stops are the perfect way to beat the jams, say Northern Rail. Blaydon MP David Anderson welcomed the increase in services. He said: “This is good news for people struggling with transport problems in this area. It follows lobbying from councillors, local people and MPs. “However, we need to continue to improve all transport links and systems or we will see a continuation of the congestion problems that we all face every day on our journeys to and from work.” The extra trains into Newcastle in the morning from Blaydon are at 8.10am and 8.34am, and from Dunston at 8.17am and 8.42am. In the other direction a train leaves Newcastle for Dunston and Blaydon at 5.26pm and for Dunston at 6.04pm. Network Traveltickets covering these zones are valid on these services.
