Bus service improvements prompted by passenger views

Story added: Thursday 10 July 2008
Passengers can look forward to an even better service and some cracking fare deals on some of Go North East’s leading bus brands from Sunday, July 27.

The improvements are being made in response to passenger comments collected during a recent passenger survey and will further boost the quality of service provided by the popular Red Kite, West Durham Swift and Diamond services.

There will also be some great summer fare deals on these services until the end of August, making bus travel even better value for money as the cost of travelling by car continues to rise.

The Red Kite service will offer a simpler, regular 15 minute frequency on Mondays to Saturdays and run as either service 45 or 46.  The buses will provide improved links for Hamsterley, Ebchester and Shotley Bridge and quicker journey times between MetroCentre and Newcastle. Some quicker, non-stop services are also being introduced in morning peak periods between Team Street in Gateshead and Clayton Street in Newcastle.  Service 46 will also provide a new, direct link from Bridgehill to the MetroCentre.

The Red Kite service will also offer better evening connections at Consett Bus Station.  Passengers arriving on the Red Kite service will be able to connect within minutes to Venture service V1 to Delves Lane or Lime service 8 to Castleside.  Connections will also be improved for people transferring to Red Kite services at Consett for MetroCentre and Newcastle.

A new, hourly X71 West Durham Swift service will run between Consett and Newcastle, providing a link between Medomsley and Gateshead Interchange, serving Leadgate, Pont, Bradley, Burnopfield and Sunniside. Due to the high number of passengers travelling between Sunniside, Gateshead and Newcastle, there will also be an extra journey on the X71 at peak times.

Local buses in Consett will also be improved with Venture services V1 and V2 providing passengers with a regular 15 minute service between Delves Lane and Consett bus station.  New services V5 and V6 will replace Red Kite service 46A and service 756 in the Consett area.

New service V9 will replace services 758 and 759 between Chopwell and Consett.  The hourly service has a route which includes a direct link to Shotley Bridge Hospital in response to customer requests.

Venture services will also have their share of summer fare deals with adult tickets from just £2 a day.

Go North East has invested in refurbishing Diamond services 43 and 44, giving them on-board information screens, new seating and a bright, fresh interior.  The buses will also have an improved frequency, running at regular 15 minute intervals at morning peak times on Mondays to Fridays.

In response to requests from customers, there will be some changes to other services and timetables with the aim of improving reliability.

Full details of the changes together with timetable information on all Go North East services can be found at www.simplygo.com.
