Resurfacing work at Gateshead Interchange

Story added: Wednesday 27 August 2008
Buses using Gateshead Interchange will be calling at different stands for up to 10 weeks while roads within the bus station are resurfaced.

The work is due to start on Monday, 1 September and the Interchange will remain open throughout, but with buses moved to different stands within it.

Full details of where buses will depart can be found on leaflets and posters at the Interchange and on buses.

Extra staff will also be on-hand to guide passengers during the work.

The X66 CentreLink non-stop bus to MetroCentre will pick up and drop off passengers on the A184 Prince Consort Road, next to the interchange, where a special stop and shelter is being erected.

Quaylink, Go North East ‘The Loop’ 94 towards Team Valley, plus Go North East ‘Highwayman’ buses 95, 96, and 97 towards Whickham and MetroCentre will call at Jackson Street, opposite the interchange.

A Nexus spokesman said: “This work only affects where buses stop within the interchange. Buses will still follow their normal routes into and out of Gateshead.

“Passengers who get on or off at Gateshead should check leaflets, look out for signs and follow advice from staff.

“The resurfacing will keep the roads in the interchange in good condition for another 15 years. We’ll keep disruption to passengers to a minimum while we get the job done.”
