Nexus and Go North East are to start a new daytime bus service for South Tyneside, starting from Monday, 21 April. The new 942 bus will run five times a day linking Low Simonside, the Scotch Estate, Brockley Whins Metro and Biddick Hall with Asda in Boldon. The bus is the latest in a series of new routes introduced by Nexus in the East Jarrow and John Reid Road area this year to improve transport links. These include extensions of the Stagecoach 11/12 and 13/14 to connect Low Simonside with Jarrow town centre, South Shields town centre and South Tyneside General Hospital. There are also two new weekly shopper services linking sheltered homes in Simonside and Whiteleas with Asda in Boldon. The 942 is being provided to meet requests by residents and local councillors for a bus service through the area, providing links to local services and connections with other bus and Metro in South Tyneside. John Usher, Head of Transport Integration for Nexus, said: "We're providing the 942 on a trial basis to bring back a link to Asda in Boldon. "It will run during the day to serve pensioners and families access important services and shops. "The 942 is being provided by Nexus at a subsidy and we will see what the take-up is like in the next few months before deciding on the route's future." Nexus is working alongside existing bus operators in South Tyneside to map out a fresh network for South Tyneside that best meets the needs of local people. The findings of that study are expected during the summer. The 942 will run between 9.35am and 3.15pm. The full route is Boldon cinema, Abingdon Way, Henley Way, Hubert Street, New Road, Boldon Lane, Benton Road, Galsworthy Road, Sheridan Road, Chesterton Road, John Reid Road, Perth Avenue, Australia Grove, Brisbane Avenue, Inverness Road, Perth Avenue, Edinburgh Road, Leam Lane, Auckland Terrace, Lynton Avenue, Taunton Avenue, Falmouth Drive.
