"Ten" good reasons for using new bus.

Story added: Monday 15 September 2008
Image: GoAhead bus, the Ten. There are "Ten" good reasons for using the bus between Greenside, Ryton, Blaydon and Newcastle, after new investment by Go North East in the busy commuter route.

The sparking silver buses have been named "Ten" and are the closest thing to perfect in everyday bus travel with air conditioning, tinted windows, on-board CCTV and powered ramps for easy access.

The buses also have on-board screens to keep passengers up-to-date with the latest news headlines, weather and sport and their Euro 5 engines keep emissions to a minimum, helping to improve air quality.

Hand-picked, highly trained drivers will offer Go North East’s unique gold standard service with guarantees on punctuality and frequency as well as first class customer care.

The "Ten" services begin on Sunday, September 14 running every 10-15 minutes on Monday to Saturday between Newcastle city centre and MetroCentre.

Leaving Eldon Square Bus Station, the "Ten" picks up passengers at Central Station, Gallowgate and Westgate Road before travelling non-stop to MetroCentre.  Leaving MetroCentre, the "Ten" travels non-stop to St Andrew’s Church in Newcastle city centre before arriving in Eldon Square Bus Station.

The "Ten" also serves Blaydon, Ryton, Crawcrook and Rockwood Hill.

On its first day of operation, a 10p super fare will buy passengers a single journey anywhere on the route with hundreds of 10ps being given away at an event at MetroCentre’s Green Car Park on the day.  Introductory fare offers of just £2 a day or £10 a week will then be available on the bus until October.

Commercial Director with Go North East, Martin Harris said, “The non-stop service between Newcastle city centre and MetroCentre gives passengers a fast, ten minute journey time and with our guarantees on reliability and punctuality the "Ten" provides the kind of premium service today’s customers expect.  An added bonus is that this quality service comes at a very affordable price.”

The introduction of the "Ten" buses brings the total amount invested by Go North East in Mercedes buses to around £7.5m in the last year as they join sister services the Red Arrows, Citylink and Laser.
