'Cakes, Crows & Insulators' by Lucy Casson

Hebburn

Shelters on Platforms 1 and 2

2000 - 2014

This work was removed to allow for station refurbishment in 2014.  A new space for temporary commissions and community art is being created at Hebburn to replace it.

Lucy developed her ideas for this commission through working with a number of Hebburn’s senior citizens.  Discussions regarding memories the ladies had of the area and stories relating to both their personal and working lives encouraged the artist to create a work that, through her language, would imaginatively capture the essence of Hebburn and celebrate its everyday life.  The original artwork was produced using a range of techniques which included linocuts, fingerprints and collage and was then enlarged and reproduced onto vitreous enamel panels.
