Celebrating Pride Pooches - Where can you go with a Dog on Metro

At Metro we are delighted to be supporting Pride Pooches - a unique event for dog lovers. Help us celebrate by jumping on the Metro with your four-legged friend and visiting one of these dog-friendly venues.

Grannie Annies - Roker Beach

Roker Beach is a popular coastal destination known for its wide, clean, sandy shore, perfect for our four-legged friends. This picturesque beach, along with the adjacent Seaburn Beach, forms part of Sunderland’s seafront and Grannie Annie’s sits in the heart of the action in Roker, with a huge arrange of local ales and international spirit favourtes it’s a worthy pub with a rustic interior.

Grannie Annie’s also hosts local talent with live music. Solos, duos, and live bands perform throughout the week, perfect for those looking to sample music any night of the week.

The Tyne Bar - Ouseburn

Walking Distance - 15 Mins

The Tyne Bar is an Ouseburn gem, nestled beneath the Glasshouse Bridge where the River Ouse meets the Tyne. Since its opening in November 1994, it has been a mainstay of Newcastle’s pub scene, contributing to the cultural renaissance of the Ouseburn Valley. 

And of course dogs are welcome thoughout, there is also the beer garden beneath the bridge with fantastic views of the quayside. Overall, it’s a welcoming place for all ages and all dogs to enjoy the Ouseburn scene!

Whether you’re a local or just passing through, The Ticket Office is definitely worth checking out! With a huge range of local craft beers, gins, wines, and more. You can sit under our station canopy too, which is a light and airy space to sit and watch the world (and our trains) go by. 

 

Microbus- Gateshead
Nearest Station- Gateshead 
Walking Distance- 5 mins 

Microbus is a cozy VW camper-themed bar located in Gateshead’s Railway Quarter. It’s situated in a railway arch just off the High Level Bridge, close to the Tyne Bridge. They welcome dogs and have a focus on real ale drinks. With a unique bus theme its one for anyone intreasted in public transport.  

Twenty Twenty - Bigg Market 
Narest Station – Monument

Checkout the 20-inch pizzas being cooked up at Twenty Twenty. Dogs are welcome here all day every day but the monthly ‘Dogs & Dough’ events, hosted by resident pooch Theo the Labradoodle, are a real treat. Not only do two and four-legged visitors get the chance to socialise but there are great deals such as 241 pizza slices, free dog treats and puppucinos. You might even be lucky enough to catch a doggy disco.

 

The Head of Steam - Quayside

Walking Distance - 20 Mins

The Head of Steam in Newcastle offers a variety of bar meals. Their menu typically includes classic pub fare such as burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, and other hearty food options. You can expect decent portions and a relaxed atmosphere. If you’re looking for a casual spot to enjoy a meal and drinks, it’s a great choice for those with dogs given its proximity to walks along the Quayside.

Platform 33- South Shields

Walking Distance- 20 mins

The Marsden Rattler, now known as Platform 33, in South Shields is a dog-friendly pub based on the seafront. They provide blankets for dogs to sit on, and you’ll find water available for your canine companion. They also have a large outdoor area which is great for catching some sun with friends and watching the world go by on the beach opposite.

Dog and Scone Café - Quayside

Dog and Scone in Newcastle is a delightful haven for dog lovers. Imagine enjoying delicious cakes, coffees, and teas while surrounded by adorable resident dogs. Unfortunately, visiting dogs are not allowed inside the café.

Meet some of their adorable dogs:

Momo: The calm toy poodle.

Pickle: Energetic and playful.

Yuki: Shy teacup Yorkshire terrier.

Shadow: Long-haired Chihuahua and best friend of Teddy.

Sugar: Cuddly teacup Pomeranian.

Noodle: The longhaired mini dachshund.

Teddy: Small but with a huge personality!
