Important information - From Monday 15 June, Haymarket bus station will be for boardings only.

This means that instead of getting off your bus at Haymarket bus station, you will get off at the previous stop – which will be on St Mary’s Place, Barras Bridge or St Thomas Street.

You can get on your bus at Haymarket bus station as normal.

This is to make your bus journey more covid secure, so that passengers leaving buses don’t come into contact with those waiting for them.

- (approx) October 2021: Routes 79A & TB20 – Avenue Vivian/Lambton Lane/Rose Avenue, Fence Houses

Avenue Vivian at Fence Houses will be closed between Lambton Lane and Rose Avenue from Wednesday 13 May 2020 for approximately 18 months.  The long-term closure is to allow construction and drainage works.
Nexus Services 79A (Go North East) and TB20 (Station Taxis) will divert from Station Avenue via Rose Avenue to Avenue Vivian, omitting Station Avenue North (28047) and Lambton Lane 28952.
Passengers should use Avenue Vivian or Station Avenue at Durham Street/St John’s Church.



 


 

- May 2021: Routes 49C & 64 – Johnson Street, Gateshead

Johnson Street, Gateshead, will be closed until May 2021 to facilitate works on behalf of Northumbria Water.  
Go North East 49C & 64 services will divert as follows:
Service 49C (returning to service on 1st June) will divert from Ellison Road roundabout via Clockmill Road and Team Street in both directions.
Service 64 (return to service TBA) will divert from Askew Road via Askew Road West to Rose Street and normal route.



 


 

- Bus route changes – Vine Place and Holmeside, Sunderland

Sunderland City Council have advised that, in line with police requirements, changes to routes and stops will be necessary in order to implement social distancing measures on Vine Place and Holmeside and will apply from 6pm on Friday 12th June.

Eastbound Closure of Vine Place and Holmeside
The eastbound stops (24S27/24S28/24S29) will be suspended with buses diverted via Stockton Road (temp stop near Age Concern) and Burdon Road re-joining normal routes and stops at Borough Road/Fawcett Street. 

Westbound stops relocated
Westbound, the two stops outside the market entrance will be suspended and services relocated to temporary stops west of Crowtree Road (near Hayes Travel/Aphrodite). 
Services from 24S24 (2, 2A, 8, 16, 39, 39A, 136, X24, x24A) will observe Temporary Stop A
Services from 24S40 (10, 11, 20, 700, 702) will observe Temporary Stop B



 


 

- Covid-19 Social Distancing Measures – Houghton le Spring

Sunderland City Council have advised that, in line with police requirements, the following changes will be implemented from Friday 12 June in Houghton le Spring to facilitate social distancing measures.

•    Newbottle Street to be made one way southbound
•    No access from Wheler Street into Newbottle Street.
•    Bus stop outside of Lloyds Bank suspended.

Bus services which normally travel northbound along The Broadway/Newbottle Street will operate via the established “Houghton Feast” diversion – via Hillside Way observing temporary stops adjacent to Lidl.  Sunderland City Council will provide appropriate signage for the stops affected (31H07/08/09).
Customers from the suspended southbound stop (31H05) should use the next stop on The Broadway.



 


 

- UPDATE: Social Distancing Measures – Park View, Whitley Bay: Routes 51, W1 & W2 

 
UPDATE: With effect from Friday 31 July 2020, North Tyneside Council have confirmed that Park View, Whitley Bay, will be closed between Norham Road and Marine Avenue each Saturday to facilitate social distancing measures in the town centre. 
 
Please see attached diversion information for Nexus secured services 51, W1 and W2.



 


 

- Social Distancing Measures Beverley Terrace/Grand Parade (southbound), Tynemouth: Routes 1A, 1B, 306

North Tyneside Council have confirmed that, in order to facilitate social distancing measures in Tynemouth, Beverley Terrace/Grand Parade will become northbound only between Marden Avenue and Front Street from Wednesday 1st July 2020.
Southbound Go North East services 1A/1B and Arriva service 306 will divert as follows:
Go North East  services 1A/1B towards Metrocentre will be unable to serve Beach Road and Grand Parade.  These buses will divert via Broadway and Percy Park to normal route at Percy Park Road.
Arriva service 306 from Whitley Bay to Newcastle will run via Broadway then perform a clockwise loop of Percy Park, Percy Park Road and the A193 before re-joining their normal route on King Edward Road. The short journeys from Tynemouth to Newcastle will start from the last stop on Grand Parade then run via Beach Road, Broadway and perform a clockwise loop of Percy Park, Percy Park Road and the A193 before re-joining their normal route on King Edward Road. All northbound journeys continue to run via their normal routes.  306 will serve stops on Broadway whilst on diversion.



 


 

- Social Distancing Measures: Jackson Street, Gateshead

Gateshead Council have confirmed that Jackson Street will be closed from Tuesday 04 August 2020 to allow social distancing measures to be put into place.  
Go North East services will operate as follows:
Services from/to the south to use High West Street and observe stops at The Gloucester.
GNE Services 1A and 1B will use Charles Street, then left onto High Street.
GNE Services 53 and Q2 will omit High Street and use Lambton Street.
GNE Service 94 will divert via Lambton Street, Prince Consort Rd, Charles Street then left to High West Street in to the bus station.
 



 


 

- Social Distancing Measures: Grey Street, Newcastle – Routes Q1 and Q3 (Northbound)

Newcastle City Council have confirmed that Grey Street will become southbound only from Thursday 30 July in order to facilitate social distancing measures.
Go North East northbound Quaylink Q1 and Q3 services will be diverted as follows:
Service Q3 northbound will divert from Dean Street via Mosley Street, Swan House, Pilgrim Street, (serving 08NC41 - outside Virgin Money), then via New Bridge Street, John Dobson Street and normal route
Service Q1 will divert from Dean Street via Mosley Street, Swan House, Pilgrim Street, Market Street (where stops will be observed to set down passengers) then normal route.



 


 

- Social Distancing Route changes: Routes 1, 30, 31, 36, 100, X24, X34 - Pilgrim Street/New Bridge Street, Newcastle

From Monday 20 July 2020 some bus services are being moved in advance of works to be undertaken by the City of Newcastle in relation to social distancing guidelines.

08NC80 Pilgrim St - Service 100 passengers should use the previous stop on Blackett Street. Services 1, 30 & 31 will now observe this stop.

08NC37 Pilgrim St - Services 1, 30 & 31 will move to the first bus stop on Pilgrim (outside the Stack).

08NC79 New Bridge St - Service 36 will move to the temporary bus stop on John Dobson St, next to the Laing Art Gallery.

08NC71 Pilgrim St - Service X24 & X34 will now travel north on Pilgrim St and are moved to the bus stop 08NC41 outside Virgin Money  (on the opposite side of the road).

08NC41 Pilgrim St - Service X24 and X34  will also observe this bus stop.



 


 

- Routes 93 & Q1 – Hawks Road, Gateshead

Go North East Services Q1 and 93 are unable to serve their stops on Hawks Road.
Due to COVID-19 road layout changes at Eastgate, these services are diverted from Gateshead Interchange via High West Street, Charles Street, Felling by-pass,  Albany Road and Quarryfield Road to normal routes.  
Passengers should use stops on Mill Road  (service Q1) or Saltmeadows Road (service 93).
The diversion will apply until further notice.



 


 

- (approx) March 2022: Routes 50 – Downhill Lane, West Boldon

Downhill Lane, West Boldon will be closed from Monday 14 September due to long-term works at A19/Downhill junction.  The works may take longer than 18 months to complete. 
During the closure, Go North Service 50 will divert via A19 and A184 in both directions omitting Downhill Lane.  Passengers should use stops on Addison Road. 



 


 

- Tuesday, 29 September 2020: Route 25 – Mill House Roundabout, Gateshead

UPDATE: Mill House Roundabout will be closed for resurfacing works for four nights commencing Friday 25 September (between 8pm-6am), Saturday 26 September, Sunday 27 September and Monday 28 September (between 7pm-6am). 
Go North East 25 services will be affected as follows:
Service 25 towards Newcastle will divert from Mount Pleasant (Arnold Clark roundabout) via A1 and Long Bank to Wrekenton, omitting stops between Mount Pleasant and Wrekenton High Street.
Service 25 towards Chester-le-Street will divert from Wrekenton via Long Bank, Durham Road, Birtley Lane and Mount Pleasant Road to Portmeads Road, omitting stops between Wrekenton High Street and Portmeads Road. 



 


 

- Sunday, 11 October 2020: Routes 1, 2, 7, 8, 17 & E2 – Laygate/Beaufront Terrace, South Shields

Laygate and Beaufront Terrace, South Shields, will be closed for resurfacing works from 8am to 5pm on Sunday 20 September and Sunday 27 September,  Sunday, 4 October and Sunday 11 October.
Stagecoach services 1, 2, 7, 8, 17 and E2 will have no option but to divert non-stop via Dean Road, Barnes Road and Western Approach, re-joining normal routes at the Western Approach/ Laygate Lane roundabout.
As a result of this diversion, buses will be unable to serve their normal stops along Laygate, or at Beaufront Terrace (Chichester Metro). Customers are requested to use the previous/ next stop along the line of route.



 


 

- Sunday, 27 September 2020: Routes X1, 35A & 79 – Philadelphia Lane, Houghton le Spring

Philadelphia Lane, Houghton le Spring will be closed for resurfacing works from 8am to 6pm on Sunday 20 September and Sunday 27 September.

Go North East (GNE) services X1, 35A and Nexus secured (GNE) 79 service will be affected as follows:
GNE Service X1 via Coaley Lane (serving stops), Blind Lane, Stotts Pastures and Success Road in both directions, omitting stops between Coaley Lane and Herrington Burn.
GNE Service 35A via Blind Lane, Stotts Pastures and Success Road in both directions, omitting stops between the Beehive and Herrington Burn (Customers at Coaley Lane can use service X1).
Nexus (GNE) Service 79 will divert after Newbottle South Street via Coaley Lane, Blind Lane to Golf Course Road in both directions. Stops in Philadelphia on Philadelphia Lane and Success Road will be unserved.



 


 

- Friday, 02 October 2020: Routes 37, 458 – Pattinson Road, Washington

Pattinson Road, Washington, will be closed for resurfacing works between 8am and 6pm each day from Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October.  

During the closures, Nexus secured service 37 (Gateshead Central Taxis) and Scholars service 458 (Go North East) will divert in both directions via A195 Northumberland Way, A1231 Sunderland Highway and Pattinson Road, turning at Barmston Road/Edale Road roundabout.

These buses will be unable to serve stop 23977 (Barnes Park, Teal Farm, SW bound).  Passengers should use the previous stop on Pattinson Road.



 


 

- Saturday, 03 October 2020: Routes Q1 and Q2 – The Drive, Felling

The Drive at Felling will be closed for the installation of traffic calming measures between 8am and 3:30pm for six days commencing Monday 28 September.

During the closures Go North East Q1/Q2 will divert via Watermill Lane and High Heworth Lane serving all stops on the diversion.



 


 

- Sunday, 27 September 2020: Routes 11, 135/136 – Trimdon Street, Sunderland (Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor Phase 3)

Trimdon Street, Sunderland will be closed overnight (8pm – 4am) on Saturday 26 September/Sunday 27 September to facilitate the safe switching over of the carriageway.  
During the closure, Stagecoach service 11 and Nexus secured services 135/136 (Gateshead Central Taxis) will divert as follows:

Stagecoach service 11 buses in both directions will operate from St.Lukes Cross via St.Lukes Terrace, Pallion Road and Hylton Road.  
As a result of the diversion, buses will be unable to observe their normal stops on Merle Terrace, Pallion Subway, Pallion New Road or Trimdon Street. However, buses will observe all stops along the line of the Hylton Road diversionary route, when requested.

Nexus (GCT) Services 135/136 will be unable to serve their stops along Trimdon Street and Pallion New Road.
Service 135: Towards Witherwack will divert after Silksworth Row along Hylton Road, Pallion Road, St Lukes Terrace, St Lukes Road, Meldon Road, Merle Terrace, Pallion Subway, A1231 (East) Pallion New Road, re-joining normal route at Queen Alexandra Bridge. 
Service 136: Towards Sunderland Park Lane Interchange will divert after Queen Alexandra Bridge along A1231 (West) Pallion New Road, Pallion Subway, Merle Terrace, St Lukes Terrace, Pallion Road, Hylton Road, re-joining normal route at Silksworth Row.
All stops along the diversionary route will be observed during this closure. 
Please note that services 135/136 will be able to serve some of the stops omitted by service 11 so may provide a link for passengers.
