5 June 2017 - summer 2018: Routes 306, 308, 310, 392 and W3 – Norham Road Bridge, North Shields

Norham Road bridge in North Shields is closed for rebuilding until summer 2018.  Routes 310 and W3 are operating to revised routes and timetables, please click on the links below for details.  Routes 306, 308 and 392 may also at times be subject to diversions for short periods; details will be provided here if this is needed.


20 July 2017 - summer 2018: Routes 18, 18A, 38, 54, 118, X7, X8 and X63 – Killingworth Road and West Farm Avenue, Newcastle

Killingworth Road, Gosforth, is closed between South Gosforth Roundabout and West Farm Avenue until summer 2018 to widen the road.  Routes 18, 18A, 38, 54, 118, X7, X8 & X63 are diverted via Four Lane Ends.  Details of routes and alternative stops are set out on the attached file.  Please note some of these routes also operate to a revised timetable.


7 November 2017 - August 2018: Routes 56 and 56A at Barmston, Washington

Bus stops on Cherry Blossom Way and Nissan Way in Barmston, Washington, will be out of use until August 2018 for road improvements.  The early morning routes 56 and 56A which normally operate via this route are diverted from Washington Road via Spire Road (Peel retail park), turning at Macdonalds roundabout and resuming normal route on Spire Road.  These buses are unable to serve Cherry Blossom Way, Nissan Way, Pattinson Interchange and their first northbound stop on Spire Road but will call at all stops along the diversion.


12 February 2018 - (approx) 05 March 2018: Routes, 9, 18, 20, 20A, 23, 35, 35A, 36, 56, E1, E6, N56 and X20 – Wheatsheaf and North Bridge Street, Sunderland

The southbound bus lane on North Bridge Street near Monkwearmouth Bridge, Sunderland, is closed until early March for highway works, with buses towards the city centre also unable to call at the main Wheatsheaf stops.  All Go North East and Stagecoach services, including routes 9, 18, 20, 20A, 23, 35, 35A, 36, 56,  E1, E6, N56 and X20 will follow a diversion via Roker Avenue, Church Street North and Dame Dorothy Street.  Passengers heading towards the city centre should use stops on Roker Avenue (outside the Salvation Army), Church Street North (opposite Lower Dundas Street) or Dame Dorothy Street (near Bonner’s Field) while the diversion is in place.


19 February 2018 - 25 February 2018: Routes 33A and 700 at High Street West, Sunderland

High Street West in Sunderland city centre is closed until Sunday, 25 February, for urgent works to make three derelict buildings safe. Route 33A is diverted from High Street East via Sans Street and Borough Road, missing High Street West and John Street.  Route 700 is diverted via Bedford Street and John Street, missing High Street West and West Sunniside.  Route 700 is instead calling at stop 24S12 (outside Joplings, the stop for route 23) and 24S08 (the stop at the end of John Street used by routes 9, 20 and 35).


19 February 2018 - 23 February 2018: Routes R3, R4, R6 and TB15 at Main Road, Ryton

Main Road, Ryton, is being resurfaced with temporary traffic signals in use between 9:30am and 3:30pm until Friday, 23 February.  This will affect services R3, R4, R6 and TB15.  At these times R3 and R4 are missing Whitewell Lane, Elvaston Road and Barmoor Lane.  Routes R6 and TB15 are missing a short section of Woodside Line, between Main Road and Woodside Road.  Buses will call at stops on Main Road instead, on their diversion route, although at times these may be suspended to allow for the road works.


24 February 2018 - 25 February 2018: Routes 1, 1A, 21 and X21 – A167 Durham Road/Shipcote Lane/High West Street (northbound only), Gateshead

A167 Durham Road will be closed northbound between Shipcote Lane and High West Street slip road from 8am to 4pm on Saturday 24 February and Sunday 25 February.
Go North East services 1, 1A, 21, X21 will divert via Prince Consort Road and Arthur Street returning to normal route at High West Street/High Street West junction.
Buses will observe stops on the diversion route.


25 February 2018 - Routes 2, 3, 4, 10, 11 and 17 – Nevinson Avenue, Whiteleas

Nevinson Avenue, Whiteleas, will be closed at the Whiteleas Way roundabout from 8am to 6pm on Sunday 25 February.
Stagecoach services 2, 3, 4, 10, 11 and 17 will be affected as follows:
Service 2 will turn right from Galsworthy Road into Whiteleas Way, travel to the turning circle near Whiteleas Shops, then northbound up the full length of Whiteleas Way, right into John Reid Road, right into King George Road, doing a U turn at the roundabout and resuming normal route on King George Road northbound. Service 2 will be unable to serve Gainsborough Avenue and Nevinson Avenue.
Service 3 will have to divert after Galsworthy Road left into Whiteleas Way, right onto John Reid Road, right into King George Road, doing a U turn at the roundabout and resuming normal route on King George Road northbound.
Service 4 will have to divert after King George Road, doing a U turn at the roundabout and travelling back northbound along King George Road, left into John Reid Road, left into Whiteleas Way and returning to normal route at Galsworthy Road.
Service 10 towards Jarrow will travel south along Whiteleas Way to the turning circle near Whiteleas Shops, back north along Whiteleas Way and left into Galsworthy Road, omitting Nevinson Avenue and Gainsborough Avenue.
Service 11 towards South Shields will turn right from Galsworthy Road into Whiteleas Way, run to the turning circle near Whiteleas Shops, then back north along Whiteleas Way resuming normal route although omitting Nevinson Avenue and Gainsborough Avenue.
Service 17 will be unable to complete its normal route through Whiteleas via Nevinson Avenue and Gainsborough Avenue and will turn using the turning circle on Whiteleas Way near the shops.
Passengers who normally use stops on Nevinson Avenue or Gainsborough Avenue will need to use stops on Galsworthy Road, Whiteleas Way or King George Road.


25 February 2018 - 4 March 2018: Routes 9, 26 and 27 – Finchale Road, Hebburn

Finchale Road, Hebburn, will be closed for resurfacing works between 8am and 6pm on Sundays 25 February and 4 March.
Go North East services 9, 26 and 27 will be affected as follows:
Service 9 towards Lukes Lane will operate normal route to the hand car wash on Mill Lane, then divert via Monkton Lane to Campbell Park Road, resuming normal route around Lukes Lane Estate.  Service 9 towards Murton will operate via this route reversed.
Services 26 & 27 towards South Shields will operate normal route to the hand car wash on Mill Lane, then divert via Monkton Lane and Campbell Park Road, rejoining normal route at the Elmfield Club.  Services 26 & 27 towards Newcastle will operate via this route reversed.   These services will observe all stops on Campbell Park Road.


26 February 2018 - Friday 02 March 2018: Route 46 at Queensway, Gosforth

Queensway, Gosforth, will be closed from Monday, 26 February, for up to five days for sewer repairs.  Arriva route 46 from Featherstone Grove will divert via Greenfield Road, missing Queensway.  Journeys towards Featherstone Grove will not be affected.  Please note buses operate 'hail and ride' in this area, stopping where safe to do so.
