From Monday 9 September 2024 until approx Sunday 22 September 2024, the mid-section of Fawcett Street between Athenaeum Street and West Wear Street in Sunderland will be closed to traffic whilst urgent repair works take place to kerb/paving adjacent to the signal head at the junction with West Wear Street. During the full closure of the road, Stagecoach services 3, 4, 13, 16, 18, 18A, 23, E1, E2 will be diverted as follows:

Services 3, 4, 13, and 16 towards Southwick and the North Estates – will observe normal stops at Wilko’s before diverting non-stop along Athenaeum Street, Frederick Street, Borough Road, Sans Street and West Wear Street, re-joining the regular route on North Bridge Street (no stops missed out).

Services 18, 18A to Grindon via Seaburn will not be able to observe their normal Fawcett Street stops 24s17 and 24s15. These services will instead then divert Athenaeum Street and temporarily observe the stop there, then operating non-stop via Frederick Street, Borough Road, Sans Street and West Wear Street, before re-joining the regular route on North Bridge Street.

Services 23 to Dene Estate will not be able to observe their normal Fawcett Street stops 24s18 and 24s15. These services will instead then divert Athenaeum Street and temporarily observe the stop there, then operating non-stop via Frederick Street, Borough Road, Sans Street and West Wear Street, before re-joining the regular route on North Bridge Street.

Services E1, E2 and E6 towards South Shields – will not be able to observe their normal Fawcett Street stops 24s17 and 24s15. These services will instead then divert Athenaeum Street and temporarily observe the stop there, then operating non-stop via Frederick Street, Borough Road, Sans Street and West Wear Street, before re-joining the regular route on North Bridge Street. In addition, customers may also be allowed to board on John Street 24s08 for journeys towards South Shields.

From Monday 9 September for approximately two weeks, due to road works being carried out on the junction of Fawcett Street and High Street West in Sunderland, Go North East services 9, 24, 35, 35A and 939 will be diverted and operate via Borough Road and West Wear Street, serving all bus stops on Borough Road.
