Nexus provides, plans and promotes public transport in Tyne and Wear and creates the travel networks people will want to use for decades to come.
Our services are part of everyday life for people living and working in Tyne and Wear and our customers are at the heart of everything we do.
The Tyne and Wear Metro is the UK’s busiest light rail system outside of London. From its opening in 1980, the system has carried over 1.5 billion passengers.
Nexus is working with Stadler to build 42 new Metro trains, as part of a £362m investment which will transform the passenger experience, deliver huge energy savings and secure hundreds of jobs.
Bus services in Tyne and Wear are provided by private companies, and Nexus monitors their performance. Nexus also secures around 10% of routes by subsidy on behalf of the North East Combined Authority and North of Tyne Combined Authority, and manages bus stations and interchanges across Tyne and Wear.
Nexus operates the passenger ferry on the River Tyne, running a passenger service and private hires.
Our values – Passionate, Positive, Professional
Nexus strives to make public transport great for our environment, economy and communities. Our people make Nexus a great place to work and they demonstrate passion, professionalism and positivity in their roles.
