Busking

Nexus provides busking spots at designated sites at the following Metro stations:

  • Central Station
  • Monument
  • Haymarket

Busking pitches are divided into two three-hour slots:

  • 12.00pm - 3.00pm
  • 3.00pm - 6.00pm

Consecutive bookings may be considered, but are not guaranteed.

Busking is not permitted on ‘event’ days, for example, on days when rugby and football home games, or large concerts are taking place.

Who can apply to be an authorised busker?
Anyone over the age of 16 may apply. Requests from anyone under the age of 16 will not be considered.  The maximum number of people permitted to busk in a group is two. Both members of the group are required to register.

How do I apply to be an authorised busker?
All prospective buskers are required to complete an Authorised Busker Application Form.  You can apply online or in person.

Apply to become a Metro Authorised Busker online here.  It is necessary to upload photographic identification and a passport style photograph.

In person
Visit the Metro Control Centre Reception, (located at South Gosforth station), Station Road, South Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE3 1YT .  Please bring a form of photographic identification and a passport style photograph for your application.

Applications (online and in person) will be processed within 7 working days.  Once an application has been approved, we will issue a letter of authority which will display your photograph.  The letter of authority will be valid for two years, after this time you will need to reapply.

Reserving a pitch
To reserve a pitch, please contact the Customer Relations Team at least 24 hours in advance:

  • In person at Metro Control Centre Reception, Station Road, South Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE3 1YT
  • Phone on 0191 20 20 747 or
  • Email [email protected]

Before you start to busk
You must approach a member of the Customer Service Team at the station to inform them that you have permission to busk and to verify your authorisation. You will then be shown to the designated busking area. Please note the use of amplifiers is not permitted while busking on Metro premises.

Metro employees can ask you to stop busking and leave the station at any time. This may be on operational safety grounds or if they believe you may be a nuisance to customers.
