Improvement works cog logo, Major Line Closure, Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November, Gateshead Stadium to South Shields and South Hylton

Five day Major Line Closure for improvement works
Gateshead Stadium to South Shields and Gateshead Stadium to South Hylton
Monday 28 October to Friday 1 November 2024

During the line closure no trains will run between Gateshead Stadium and South Shields or between Gateshead Stadium and South Hylton in both directions.

The closure is needed so we can renew a busy track junction in the Pelaw area.  The junction is a key intersection and one of the busiest on the Metro system, carrying 400 trains a day.  While Metro trains are not running, we will also be improving drainage, working on cables, carrying out trackside management and track alignment work.

  • Gateshead Stadium - Airport
  • Airport - Gateshead Stadium
