Nexus is investing £370 million between 2010 and 2022 to renew tracks, power lines, technology and structures across the Metro system. This has helped reduce delays while improving accessibility for all customers.

Nexus has procured the delivery of a £362 million train fleet, with the support of the Government. Stadler, the Swiss train manufacturer, won the contract to design, build and maintain the new fleet. View the new Metro fleet here.

					Line Closure - No trains between Pelaw and South Shields No trains between Pelaw and South Shields Improvement Works. No trains will run between Pelaw-South Shields all day on Saturday 2 July for Metro Flow preparation work. Trains will be running to all other stations but may not be to the usual timetable. A replacement bus service will be running, number 900 between Heworth and South Shields. Please note: during the South Shields Summer Parade (12.30pm-2.30pm) South Shields Interchange will not be accessible, our replacement bus service will stop on Coronation Street stop 42S07. 					Line Closure - Friday 29 July 2022 Major Line Closure between St James and Tynemouth Friday 29 July 2022 Major Line Closure between St James and Tynemouth Improvement Works - Major Line Closure From Saturday 16 July to Friday 29 July no trains will run in either direction between St James and Tynemouth. This is to allow for the complete removal and replacement of Tanner Bank bridge, vegetation and overhead power line work. Local bus services will be accepting Metro tickets and passes. A list of these services is available below. Bus timetables. Trains will be running to all other stations but may not be to usual timetable. Please check train times before travelling. Road and pavement closures Tanners Bank will be closed under the Metro bridge to road vehicles and pedestrians for eight weeks, 20 June to 12 August 2022. Tynemouth Road next to the bridge will be closed to all road vehicles for two weeks, 16 July to 29 July 2022 (pedestrian and cyclist access will be possible).
