A ticket for every journey
Student Metro Season Ticket - A four-week or annual ticket which could let you travel for less than £1 a day, giving you 30% discount off an adult season ticket with a valid Student ID card.
The Student Season Ticket can be used all day and is available in three different zones. Download the map at the bottom of the page and choose which one suits your needs:
- All zones
- Inner Newcastle
- Inner Sunderland
An all zones ticket is also valid on the Shields Ferry and local rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland*. A Student Season Ticket which includes Inner Newcastle can also be used on the Quaylink Central Zone buses**.
*You need a special ticket to accompany your smartcard to travel between Newcastle and Sunderland on Northern Rail. Collect yours at any Nexus TravelShop.
** Quaylink Central Zone buses cover Q1 and Q2 between Central Station and Gateshead Interchange, and Q3 between Haymarket Bus Station and St Peter's Basin.
How to buy a Student Metro Season Ticket
First you need to apply for a Pop card as this is what your Student Metro Season Ticket will be loaded onto. Apply for your free Pop card online. You'll need to upload a photo.
Your Pop card will take about five working days to arrive in the post. When it arrives take it to a Nexus TravelShop, along with your student ID showing academic dates, and staff will activate your student discount.
Once you have your Pop card and your student discount has been activated you can buy or renew your Student Metro Season Ticket:

Newcastle University Students
If you are a student at Newcastle University your Student Metro Season Ticket will be loaded onto your Newcastle University Student ID pass. Just visit a Nexus TravelShop to activate your discount to get started then you can buy or renew at any of the places listed above.
Pop Pay As You Go (PAYG)
If you like to be spontaneous and think you'll travel less than four days a week or just every so often, Pop PAYG could be for you. It's cheaper than buying Day and Single tickets from a ticket machine.
With Pop PAYG you can travel as many times as you like in one day and you'll never pay more than the daily price cap.

Are you 18 or under? Pop blue is simple and affordable. A single journey on Metro will cost you £1, or travel all day, in all zones for just £2.
Where can I get a Pop blue card?
Get your Pop blue card online or from any Nexus TravelShop. The card itself is free but must be purchased with a £10 balance.
