- The station is located on an embankment near the junction of Benfield Road and Shields Road with separate entrances to each platform off Benfield Road.
- A public car park operated by the City of Newcastle is situated behind ‘The Railway’ public house on Benfield Road. There are 24 unclassified parking bays.

- Access to Platform 1 is by lift or alternatively by stairs and a steep ramp with no resting places.
- Ramp to Platform 2 has no resting places. Double hand rail available.
