NEW TRAIN FLEET TESTING

Updated atOngoing station Improvement Work
Monkseaton: Canopy gable end work is underway. Some of the station entrances need to be closed, access to and from the station is still possible, please follow the directional signage.
Whitley Bay: Work on the canopy steelwork and glazing will continue until Spring 2025. Full details of the work here.
No timetable changes
To ensure our train service continues to run we need to carry out regular maintenance and improvement works on and around our tracks. Some work can be done during the day, but often work can only be completed safely when the train service is not running. This means we work overnight and during planned line closures.
The type of work taking place includes inspections, patrolling the tracks, lineside management, maintenance and renewal work and cleaning. Sometimes the work generates noise which residents or businesses near to the Metro line may be able to hear.
