The lift at Monument between the platforms and the ticket concourse is out of use while refurbishment work takes place. If you require step free access please use St James, Central or Haymarket.
Due to a technical fault the Benton footbridge lifts are out of service, our contractor is working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
WHITLEY BAY STATION:
During the canopy refurbishment works at Whitley Bay station, please could customers use the full length of Platform 1 to board the trains. Thank you for your co-operation
TRAIN HEATING:
We’re aware some of our trains are warmer than they should be at the moment and would like to apologise for any discomfort this is causing our customers. Our partners at Stadler have identified the issue and are working to resolve it asap.
ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR:
Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated on Metro. It affects our customers and often causes delays to our service. If you witness any behaviour that is unacceptable on board our trains or at stations, please contact:

St Peter's platform 1 lift outage
From Monday 11- Friday 15 December platform 1 lift (heading towards Sunderland) will be out of use from 9.00am-4.00pm each day.
Step free access when platform 1 lift is out of use
If you wish to travel towards Sunderland, board a train from platform 2 to Stadium of Light, change platform and continue your journey. If you wish to leave the train at St Peter’s platform 1, stay on the train to Sunderland, change platform and return to St Peter’s platform 2.

- No trains between South Gosforth and Four Lane Ends
No trains between South Gosforth and Four Lane Ends after about 5.20pm on Sunday 10 December
To allow for the replacement of track points.
The last train from South Gosforth towards Four Lane Ends will be 5.19pm and the last train from Four Lane Ends towards South Gosforth 5.26pm.
A replacement bus service number 900 will be running between Regent Centre and Four Lane Ends (via South Gosforth). Some late night buses to Four Lane Ends will continue to Benton and Manors, please check the timetable for details.
Trains will be running elsewhere on the system but may not be to usual timetable. Your journey will take longer especially if changing between modes of transport, please leave extra travelling time.

- Haymarket early closure, later opening
Haymarket station early evening closures and later morning openings 5 - 7 December
The station will close at 10.00pm and will remain closed until 6.00am the next day on the following dates, to allow us to carry out escalator improvement work.

During the closures, trains will run through the station without stopping. Please use Monument. If you require step free access please use Jesmond or Central Station as Monument lift to the platforms is being refurbished.

From Tuesday 5 to Friday 8 December the lift on platform 2 (heading towards Pelaw) will be out of use from 9.00am-4.00pm each day.

If you wish to travel towards Newcastle, board a train from platform 1 to Sunderland, change platform and continue your journey. If you wish to leave the train at St Peter’s platform 2, stay on the train to Stadium of Light, change platform and return to St Peter’s platform 1.

Station Improvement Work
Cullercoats: The footbridge inside of Cullercoats station will be closed until January 2024, while we carry out major refurbishment work. The work includes strengthening and painting of the steelwork and restoring the bridge glass panels. Access between the platforms is possible via the alternative route shown below. If this is not suitable please use Whitley Bay station. During the work about five bays in the car park will be used as a works compound area.
Monkseaton: Work is taking place on the canopy gable ends of the station. Some of the station entrances need to be closed, access to and from the station will still be possible, please follow the directional signage. The car park is closed and the cycle lockers have been removed, both will be available in April 2024. Cycle racks located in the station and will remain accessible during the work.
Whitley Bay: Work at Whitley Bay station will continue until Spring 2025 on the canopy steelwork and glazing. Full details of the station refurbishment work can be viewed here.
