Live travel news

A train has been withdrawn from service at St James due to a fault. Due to this we have a gap in the service of up to 20 mins to trains running between St James and South Shields. Please leave extra time for your journey if you're travelling in the area.

When we are running a good service the status will show as ‘No Metro disruptions’. Any delays (less than 15 minutes) to service will be announced via the station PA system and passenger information boards. If delays occur resulting in trains running more than 15 minutes later than advertised the status will be updated by an automatic travel alert system.

- Haymarket escalator maintenance

One of the escalators at Haymarket is currently out of use to allow for essential maintenance work.  The work will take about six weeks to complete.  We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. 



 


 

- No trains Benton - Monkseaton until about 6.15pm

On Sunday 20 October no trains will run between Benton and Monkseaton until about 6.15pm to allow for vegetation work.  During the work a replacement bus service, number 900 will be calling at or close to all stations between Four Lane Ends and Monkseaton. Replacement bus stop locations and bus timetable are available below.  Your journey will take longer so please leave extra time for travel.

- No trains Chichester - South Shields

On Saturday 26 October no trains will run between Chichester and South Shields in either direction to allow for signalling work.  During the work a replacement bus service, number 900 will be calling at or close to all stations in the affected area.

- No trains Chichester - South Shields

On Sunday 27 October no trains will run between Chichester and South Shields in either direction to allow for signalling work.  During the work a replacement bus service, number 900 will be calling at or close to all stations in the affected area.

- No trains between Pelaw -South Hylton

On Sunday 3 November until about 11.30am (time varies depending on location) no trains will run between Pelaw and South Hylton in either direction to allow Network Rail to carry out maintenance.  During the work a replacement bus service, number 901 will be calling at or close to all stations between Heworth and South Hylton.  The first train to leave Pelaw heading towards South Hylton will be 11.28am and the first train from South Hylton heading towards Pelaw 12.07pm.

- No trains Wallsend - Monkseaton

All day on Saturday 9 November no trains will run between Wallsend and Monkseaton to allow for renewal of the overhead line.  During the work a replacement bus service, number 900 will be calling at or close to all stations in the affected area. Some late evening replacement bus services do not meet the last trains at Monkseaton/Wallsend.  For these journeys the replacement bus will continue to Longbenton (from Monkseaton) and Monument via Manors (from Wallsend).

- No trains Wallsend - Monkseaton

On Sunday 10 November up until about 6.45pm no trains will run between Wallsend and Monkseaton to allow for renewal of the overhead line.  During the work a replacement bus service, number 900 will be calling at or close to all stations in the affected area. The first train to leave Wallsend (heading towards Monkseaton) after the work will be 6.56pm and the first train from Monkseaton (towards Wallsend) will be 6.49pm.
