Today, Thursday 9th July, Trains are running to all destinations however the following services have been cancelled due to staff availability and the pandemic. Please leave extra time for your journey. Trains that are operating are running to the usual weekday timetable until about 8.00pm when the frequency reduces to a train every 30 minutes, 15 minutes through Newcastle city centre.

When we are running a good service the status will show as ‘No Metro disruptions’. Any delays (less than 15 minutes) to service will be announced via the station PA system and passenger information boards. If delays occur resulting in trains running more than 15 minutes later than advertised the status will be updated by an automatic travel alert system.

- Airport alternative exit

The doorway to the Airport terminal from the station will be open from 7.00am until 1.00pm only, until further notice.  Outside of these times please use the alternative doorway located midway up the covered ramp walkway that leads from the station concourse.



 


 

- Haymarket entrance and exit

Haymarket entry and exit changes

To assist with social distancing the entrance from St Mary's Place has been closed.  Please use the doorway from Northumberland Street to enter the station.  The doorway near to the TravelShop and Haymarket bus station is now exit only.



 


 

- No trains between South Gosforth and Shiremoor

No trains will run between South Gosforth and Shiremoor all day Saturday 11 July to allow for overhead line work.  A replacement bus service will be running between Regent Centre and Shiremoor (calling at South Gosforth, revised bus stop).  If buying your ticket from the bus driver please have the correct change.

During the work trains from St James will run to Shiremoor platform 2 and trains from South Shields will run to Regent Centre. Trains running between St James - Shiremoor and South Shields - Regent Centre will run every 24-20 minutes.

Your journey will take longer so please leave extra travel time.  Please check train and bus times before travelling. Replacement bus stop locations, timetables and train times are below.



 


 

- No trains between South Gosforth and Shiremoor

No trains will run between South Gosforth and Shiremoor on Sunday 12 July until about 6.30pm (the time varies depending on location), to allow for overhead line work.  A replacement bus service will be running between Regent Centre and Shiremoor (calling at South Gosforth, revised bus stop location).  If buying your ticket from the bus driver please have the correct change.

During the work trains from St James will run to Shiremoor platform 2 and trains from South Shields will run to Regent Centre. Trains running between St James - Shiremoor and South Shields - Regent Centre will run every 24-20 minutes.

No trains will run between St James and Monkseaton all day on Saturday 18 July, to allow for work on the Howdon depot.  A replacement bus service will be running between St James and Monkseaton.  Some late evening replacement buses will continue to Longbenton after Monkseaton as they do not connect to the last train.  Please check train and bus times before travelling.  If buying your ticket from the bus driver please have the correct change.

- No trains between St James and Monkseaton

No trains will run between St James and Monkseaton all day on Sunday 19 July, to allow for work on the Howdon depot.  A replacement bus service will be running between St James and Monkseaton.  Some late evening replacement buses will continue to Longbenton after Monkseaton as they do not connect to the last train.  Please check train and bus times before travelling.  If buying your ticket from the bus driver please have the correct change.

Metro timetable - Updated 18 June

If you need to travel by Metro stay 2 metres (6ft) apart where possible, wash or sanitise your hands regularly and wear a face covering this is compulsory. 

A normal service is running  between St James-South Shields and Airport-South Hylton.  From about 8.00pm the service frequency reduces to a train every 30 minutes.  The additional services will assist with social distancing.  

Please note on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July train times will be different due to the planned modernisation work between South Gosforth and Shiremoor.
