Live travel news

Service has now resumed and trains are running between Chichester and South Shields in both directions but are subject to delays of up to 20 mins. This was due to an ambulance attending.

Please leave extra time for your journey.

When we are running a good service the status will show as ‘No Metro disruptions’. Any delays (less than 15 minutes) to service will be announced via the station PA system and passenger information boards. If delays occur resulting in trains running more than 15 minutes later than advertised the status will be updated by an automatic travel alert system.

- Haymarket escalator maintenance

One of the escalators at Haymarket is currently out of use while essential maintenance work takes place. We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. 



 


 

- Haymarket exit only

Haymarket station will be exit only Monday - Friday between 8.15am and 9.15am, to assist with crowd control.  During this time entry into the station will not be permitted. Please use Monument or Jesmond.  Trains will stop at Haymarket as usual and exiting the station will be possible.  This arrangement will be in place until about March 2020.  We're sorry for any inconvenience.



 


 

- North Shields platform 2 lift maintenance

The lift on platform 2 at North Shields will be out of use on Wednesday 29 January from 7.30am until 7.00pm, to allow for maintenance.

If step free access is required to access platform 2 and you wish to travel towards St James, board a train from platform 1 travel to Tynemouth change platform and continue your journey.  If you want to leave the train at North Shields platform 2 and require step free access to leave the station, remain on the train until Meadow Well, change platform and return to North Shields platform 1.  Your journey will take longer so please leave extra travel time.  For help planning your journey call 0191 20 20 747.   



 


 

- No trains between Benton and Monkseaton

On Saturday 1 February no trains will run between Benton and Monkseaton to allow for renewal of the over head power line.  During the work a replacement bus service, number 900 will be calling at or close to all stations Four Lane Ends to Monkseaton. 

The last two replacement buses to Four Lane Ends will continue to Longbenton as they do not connect to the last trains.  Please check train and bus times before travelling to ensure you have sufficient time for any transport connections.

Some late night buses will continue to Longbenton from Tynemouth and to Monument from Wallsend as they do not connect to the last trains.  Please check train and bus times before travelling to ensure you have sufficient time for any transport connections.

On Sunday 16 February no trains will run between Pelaw and South Hylton to allow for Network Rail work.  During the work a replacement bus service, number 901 will be calling at or close to all stations Heworth - South Hylton. 

Some late night buses will continue to Regent Centre from Heworth as they do not connect to the last trains.  The last bus towards South Hylton will end service at Park Lane.  Please check train and bus times before travelling to ensure you have sufficient time for any transport connections.

On Sunday 23 February up until about 6.30pm no trains will run between South Gosforth and Shiremoor to allow for over head power line renewal work.  During the work a replacement bus service, number 900 will be calling at or close to all stations Regent Centre - Shiremoor (calling at South Gosforth). 

The first trains to run after the work: South Gosforth towards Shiremoor 6.18pm and from Shiremoor towards South Gosforth 6.19pm.
