Major Line Closure for the new South Shields interchange

There are no trains running between Chichester and South Shields in either direction until Sunday 4 November. This is to allow for work on the new South Shields interchange.

Getting to and from South Shields town centre will still be easy as a replacement bus service, number 900, is running between Chichester and South Shields. Replacement bus stop location maps and timetables are available at nexus.org.uk/metro

When we are running a good service the status will show as ‘No Metro disruptions’. Any delays (less than 15 minutes) to service will be announced via the station PA system and passenger information boards. If delays occur resulting in trains running more than 15 minutes later than advertised the status will be updated by an automatic travel alert system.

- Palmersville temporary pathway closure

From Monday 1 October for about four weeks the pathway between Palmersville station and Miller Close will be closed to allow for resurfacing work.  Anyone requiring step free access to/from Miller Close to/from the station are advised to use Great Lime Road.  We're sorry for any inconvenience.



- Major Line Closure Chichester - South Shields

From Monday 1 October to Saturday 3 November, no trains will run between Chichester and South Shields.  This is to allow for track and signal upgrades for the new South Shields interchange.

Getting to and from South Shields town centre will still be easy as a frequent replacement bus will run between the two stations.  Tickets and passes will be valid on the bus and the driver will also sell tickets.  Your journey will take longer so please leave additional time for your journey.

- No trains Pelaw - South Hylton

On Sunday 4 November no trains will run between Pelaw and South Hylton until about 11.30am (depending on location), this is to allow for Network Rail work.  A replacement bus number 901 will be running between Heworth and South Hylton in both directions.  Metro tickets and passes will be accepted on the replacement bus and tickets can be purchased from the driver.  Your journey will take longer so please leave extra time for travel.  The first train to leave Pelaw towards South Hylton after the work will be 11.28am and the first train from South Hylton towards Pelaw 12.07pm.  For help planning your journey call 0191 20 20 747 (open Monday - Friday 8.00am - 6.00pm) or use the Live Travel Map.



- Chichester platform 2 closure

Chichester platform 2 will be closed from 4 November until about August 2019, due to signalling constraints in place while building work on the new South Shields interchange takes place.  During the closure, if you’d like to travel from Chichester towards Pelaw, board a train from platform 1, travel to South Shields and remain on the train.  Anyone wishing to leave the train at Chichester after travelling from South Shields should stay on the train to Tyne Dock, change platforms and return to Chichester platform 1.  For help planning your journey call 0191 20 20 747 (lines open Monday to Friday 8.00am - 6.00pm)



- No trains St James - Tynemouth
