Nexus has been made aware of a Facebook page that is falsely claiming to sell Pop Pay As You Go (PAYG) cards. Customers should be advised that this links to a fraudulent/scam website and they should not engage with it. This is not connected in any way with Tyne and Wear Metro or Nexus and we do not endorse its content. The Facebook page and website has been reported to Northumbria Police.

When we are running a good service the status will show as ‘No Metro disruptions’. Any delays (less than 15 minutes) to service will be announced via the station PA system and passenger information boards. If delays occur resulting in trains running more than 15 minutes later than advertised the status will be updated by an automatic travel alert system.

Whitley Bay station work

Work on the station canopy steelwork and glazing will continue until Spring 2025.  Full details of the work can be viewed here.

To ensure our train service continues to run we need to carry out regular maintenance and improvement works on and around our tracks. Some work can be done during the day, but often work can only be completed safely when the train service is not running. This means we work overnight and during planned line closures.

The type of work taking place includes inspections, patrolling the tracks, lineside management, maintenance and renewal work and cleaning. Sometimes the work generates noise which residents or businesses near to the Metro line may be able to hear.
