Choir sings praises of public transport

Singers perform at Monument

Public transport took centre stage when a choir performed a selection of songs to reveal a new-look travel ticket to the public.

Network One, the new name for Network Travel Tickets,  are the only tickets accepted by all the main operators in Tyne and Wear meaning passengers can travel on bus, Metro, local train services and Shields Ferry with just the one ticket.

Hundreds of passers-by gathered around Grey’s Monument in Newcastle  to watch the Sage Academy Singers perform a series of songs chosen by the public in a recent poll to promote the new tickets, including ‘Ticket to Ride’, ‘You’re The One That I Want’ and ‘One Vision’.

Operators Arriva, Go North East, Nexus and Stagecoach have worked together to provide a clearer identity for the tickets and reduce the number of travel zones from 32 to just five, making it simpler to select the best value ticket for your journey.

Bernard Garner, Director General of Nexus said, “Making travel by public transport as simple and straightforward as possible is certainly going to help encourage more people to give it a try.  Using Network One tickets, passengers don’t need to worry about needing a range of tickets if they need to use different operators.”

Network One provides great value travel with a wide range of flexible tickets available for everyone including commuters, students, anyone on New Deal and 16-19 year olds as well as popular Day Rover tickets.
