Nexus is looking for nine new apprentices for positions across their business.

The apprenticeships are all Level 3, and successful applicants will start in autumn 2022.

Five new recruits will work in Metro Infrastructure, in signalling, track engineering and electrical technical roles.

Two business administration apprenticeships are available in the Procurement and Train Planning teams.

One electrical apprentice will join the Automatic Fares Collection team, responsible for the maintenance of ticket machines, gate lines and validators across the network.

And in a rare opportunity, Nexus is looking for an apprentice to join the Shields ferry crew. The successful candidate will learn all aspects of crewing the ferry, and work towards their Boat Master’s License.

Over 90% of Nexus apprentices move into a higher apprenticeships or permanent employment on completion. Nexus is looking for people interested in building long-term careers with them, as they invest half a billion pounds in a new fleet, track and service improvements over the next five years.

Ally Jennings, HR Manager at Nexus, said: “We had a fantastic response to our apprenticeship recruitment last year, and those apprentices are now making a real difference to our business.

This year we have nine apprenticeship vacancies, and we are looking forward to welcoming a diverse group of talented people who are keen to start careers within the transport industry.

Investing in apprenticeships is important to us, as it ensures we have people with the right skills within the business, building their careers, bringing enthusiasm and new ideas, and securing the future of our workforce.”

Applications for the new apprentice posts are open now, and close on 5 June.
