We have welcomed a delegation from the Republic of Ireland on a fact-finding visit as Dublin prepares to build its very first Metro system.
A team from Transport Infrastructure Ireland travelled to the new £70m Gosforth Metro Depot to observe the facilities, features, layout, and find out more about how it was built.
The visit was arranged to gather information and share knowledge as Dublin gets ready to start construction on its 9.5 billion Euro Metrolink network, which will include new lines, trains, stations and a depot.
Our Metro system is a good blueprint for the new system that is going to be built in Dublin, revolutionising mass transit in the Irish capital when it opens in 2035. Work is set to start next year.
The Irish delegation was given a detailed guided tour of Gosforth Depot, including its stores, offices, welfare facilities, control room, workshops and train stabling areas.
