Nexus has announced Feeding Families as their chosen charity, as voted for by their employees.

The tie up with the charity will include regular food donations and fundraising activities throughout the year, starting this week.

On Friday 11 December at Gateshead Interchange and Monday 21 December at Park Lane Interchange, Nexus staff will be getting in the festive spirit and collecting cash donations from the public, passengers and staff.

Collections also start this week in Nexus buildings and will continue into 2021.

Building on the transport link, Feeding Families plan to put the money raised towards buying a vehicle, which will allow them to collect and deliver more donations across the region.

Every year the one thousand-strong Nexus workforce selects a charity to support and holds a series of fundraising events to raise money for that particular good cause.

Martin Kearney, Chief Operating Officer at Nexus, said: “2020 has been challenging for all of us, and for families who are really struggling, Feeding Families has been a lifeline for them. We’re delighted to be able to add our support to their very worthy cause and provide some relief to families in the North East who are living in poverty.

“I know a lot of our staff will give up their own time to get involved and help us towards our fundraising. We might have some additional challenges due to Covid-19 stopping some activities, but like everything else, we’ll find a way around it to make sure Feeding Families receive as much support from us as possible.”

Feeding Families is a relatively new charity, registered in 2018 after a small project to provide Christmas hampers to six families received a lot of interest and attention. The charity is providing over 7000 Christmas hampers to families in need in the North East this year.

Juliet Sanders, Chief Executive Officer of Feeding Families said: “We were delighted to hear that Nexus have adopted us as their chosen charity in the coming year. We are all about communities coming together and to have such a well-known and respected business support us is very exciting and encouraging. We hope that together we can do great things to help many in our region.”
