Four Nexus colleagues swapped buses and trains for aeroplanes, as they took to the skies to raise money for charity.

Jim Barnes, Kieron Burn, Subham Singh and Jenni Daglish braved the UKs highest sky dive, freefalling at 120mph from 15,000 feet, today, Friday 1 March.

The team were raising money for Nexus’ corporate charity, Daft As A Brush Cancer Patient Care and so far they have raised a fantastic £1800 with their jump with Sky High Skydiving at Peterlee Airfield.

Jim, a Research Supervisor, said: “Kieron, Subham and I work in the same team, and had mentioned on a night out that we’d all like to sky dive. We decided to just book it before we talked ourselves out of it, and it’s a great opportunity to raise money for our charity too.

It was an amazing experience, I was so nervous leading up to it, but today I just felt great, I loved it.”

Subham, an Insight Analyst, said: “I haven’t even told my family I was doing the jump, they think I was at work so I’m going to surprise them by sending them the video! It was absolutely fantastic.”

Jenni, Service Delivery Information Manager for Nexus, said: “I heard the others were doing it and I asked if I could join them. I was so excited and it lived up to expectations. It was an amazing experience and the team we jumped with were brilliant.”

Kieron, a Data Science Apprentice, said: “It was brilliant, the best thing I’ve ever done, I’m going to book up to do another one as soon as possible!”

Daft As A Brush Cancer Patient Care transport cancer patients across the North East to and from hospital appointments, free of charge. It is totally funded by charitable donations and the support of over 400 volunteers.

David Wilson, Development Manager at Daft As A Brush, said: We know that our volunteers and partners always go above and beyond to support our service, but I think that the team from Nexus this time are going above and above with this challenge.  It’s great to see so many people donating as it ensures we keep our service on the road – a big thank you to Jim, Kieron, Subham and Jenni.

Nexus employees choose a different charity every year to support, with various fundraising activities including walks, cake sales, raffles and sales of lost property. So far, over £5000 has been raised for Daft as a Brush by Nexus since April 2023.
