Nexus, which owns, manages and is modernising Metro, said today it expects thousands of music fans to use the Metro system for this summer’s Pink concert at the Stadium of Light in Sunderland.

Pink’s Funhouse Summer Carnival Tour arrives at the Stadium of Light on Friday June 11 at the start of the UK leg of her European tour.

Metro, which carries 40 million passengers a year, will play a crucial role in getting concert goers into the centre of Sunderland on the day of the concert and to the venue itself, the home of Sunderland Association Football Club.

Last summer Take That and OASIS played live at the Stadium of Light and the Metro service proved to be a vital link along with the local bus network.

Nexus Communications Director, Andy Bairstow, said: “It’s great news that Sunderland will be hosting another major open air concert this summer. Local bus and Metro services are going to be playing a crucial part in its success.

“Last June we saw more than a hundred thousand people using Metro for the Take That and OASIS gigs in the space of just a few days. Metro showed its true value on those occasions."

A limited number of general admission standing only tickets will go on sale from the Stadium of Light Ticket Office from 10am on Friday 29 January 2010.
