During the school summer holidays, rail operators, including Nexus, are reminding parents and children of the dangers of trespassing on the railway, following the release of the latest figures which highlight an increase in the number of trespass incidents.

The summer holiday period is traditionally a time when Metro can see a rise in instances of trespass and anti-social behaviour on the system.  Nexus works closely with local schools to educate children and their parents on the dangers of trespassing on the Metro network.

Metro is not a playground and our Youth Liaison Officer has visited schools throughout the year, and has educated 1,400 school children/youths around the dangers posed and the risk of being hit by 1,500dc volts of electricity and Metro trains travelling up to speeds of 50mph.

Latest figures released by Network Rail show across the rail network in England, Wales and Scotland, there were 18,517 incidents, 20% of which (around 3,700) involved young people under the age of 18.
