We are recruiting eight new apprentices this year, and everyone interested is invited to a recruitment event to find out more.

Apprentice roles include project management, signalling, customer service, finance and engineering.

A recruitment open evening is taking place on Wednesday 12 February at Nexus Learning Centre in South Shields, from 3pm – 7pm.

It’s a drop-in event, with no sign up needed. Attendees can talk to our teams about the apprenticeship vacancies, plus all other vacancies and opportunities for work experience.

Our partner, Stadler, who maintain the Metro fleet for us at their brand-new depot in Gosforth, will also be at the event talking about their own vacancies.

We have a successful track record in recruiting apprentices, with nine out of ten previous apprentices progressing on to permanent full-time employment with them when they complete their training.

Ally Jennings, HR Manager at Nexus, said: “We're looking forward to welcoming a diverse mix of talented people who are keen to start or continue their careers in public transport, helping us deliver vital services for our customers every day.

“Apprenticeships are vital for our long-term future and are an ideal route for both us and the apprentices. They provide us with fresh ideas, new thinking and solid succession planning for critical roles, and the apprentices learn bespoke skills and competencies.

“We have gained countless skilled and engaged permanent employees who first joined us as apprentices, and we’re looking forward to the 2025 cohort joining them.”

Details of all apprenticeships are online now at Apprentices | nexus.org.uk and the closing date for apprenticeship applications is Sunday 23 February.
