A seven-day major line closure between on Metro between Airport and South Gosforth has been successfully completed, with our teams carrying out a wide range of essential infrastructure renewal schemes.
We have replaced 1,400 metres of overhead line and put in 1.5km of new tracks.
There was also a wide range of secondary works during the closure too.
This includes signalling cable testing, lighting and CCTV works, bridge and structure inspections, graffiti removal, lineside estate works, statutory track inspections, switchbox renewals, and ceiling repairs at Regent Centre Metro station.
Thanks to customers for their patience while buses replaced trains in the affected area.
The line between Airport and South Gosforth re-opened as planned on Saturday, 24 February.
The video below features members of the Nexus workforce who were just a few of the many teams who worked on this major renewal project.
